Our experienced coaches work closely with players to develop consistency and confidence in their shots, whether from mid-range or beyond the arc. Here are some tips to help you find your ideal basketball shooting form.

Training your basketball shooting form is key to becoming a reliable scorer, something like Stephen Curry or Lebron James. While everyone’s form is unique, there are fundamental elements that can guide you toward your perfect shooting form. At Dubai Vampires Basketball Academy, we believe that mastering the art of shooting is key to a successful basketball career, and we are committed to guiding our athletes on that journey.

4 tips to train your basketball shooting form

1. Start with the basics: Keep your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and stay balanced. Position your dominant foot slightly forward for stability. This helps ensure a strong base for a smooth release.

2. Hand placement is crucial: Your shooting hand should be directly under the ball, with your fingers spread comfortably. The guide hand should rest on the side to steady the ball but shouldn’t interfere during the release. Focus on shooting with your fingertips rather than your palm for better control.

3. Focus on your follow-through: After the release, snap your wrist forward in a “goose neck” motion, keeping your eyes on the rim. The arc and rotation of the ball are just as important as the accuracy, and a good follow-through ensures consistency.

4. Practice, Adjust, Repeat: Muscle memory is built through repetition. Practice your form consistently, but also make small adjustments as needed. Video yourself or ask for feedback from a coach to identify areas to improve.

How to track results?

Finding your perfect shooting form takes time and patience, but by following these steps, you can build a reliable, consistent shot that feels natural to you. Keep practicing, and watch your shooting percentage rise!
